Family Friendly Strategy
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin considers itself to be a family-friendly university and is constantly working to maintain a sustainable work-life balance. This was confirmed in 2009 and again in 2013 by the ‘audit familiengerechte hochschule’ (Family-friendly university audit) certification, an initiative of the non-profit Hertie Foundation.
The Family Support Office promotes the further development and implementation of a systematic overall concept to improve HU’s family-friendliness. In addition to counselling on all aspects of the work-studies-life balance, this includes the university’s internal family-friendliness information policy, supporting the implementation of compensation for disadvantage, further expanding childcare options and expanding the university’s family-friendly infrastructure.
The Family Support Office maintains a constant dialogue with the Commission family appropriate University (KFH), the central and decentralised Gender Equality Officers, the staff councils and the Student Council. The Family Support Office is a member of the ‘Familie in Hochschule und Wissenschaft Berlin’ (Family in Berlin Higher Education and Science) network.
